A Queensland school principal has become the Toastmasters world champion.
Mark Hunter from the Undurba State School, near Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, is the first Australian since 1982 to win the tournament.
Mr Hunter says the audience seemed happy with the judge’s choice in today’s final in the United States.
“Third was announced, then second was announced and I thought, I could pull this off, and once it was announced, the place erupted,” he said.
“The audience was about 1,200 to 1,500 people, and it seemed to be the choice of the judges was the choice of the populace.
“I was gobsmacked.”
