Two of Mt Sheridan Toastmasters Club members worked extremely hard during the approach and aftermath of Cyclone Yasi earlier this month.

Rod Sheather

Rod Sheather

Rod Sheather, our Sergeant At Arms, is the Queensland Chair of the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals.  He was a key organiser in the unprecedented evacuations of over 250 patients from the Cairns Base Hospital and Cairns Private hospital on 1st February 2011.

Anton MacSuibhne is our Club’s Vice President Public Relations and also a Manager at Technical Support Services for the Cairns Regional Council.  He was stationed at the new Woree Community Centre, which was the headquarters for implementing strategies and advice about Cyclone Yasi.

We all know the importance of good communication skills – and for people in responsible roles during a crisis, this is critically so.

On behalf of all our members, I would like to say a Big Thank You for helping to keep us all safe through the cyclone.
